I promised a Fall inspired cocktail, but y’all….today got hot, so I just couldn’t bring out the apple and cinnamon. Instead, I’m sharing this Spicy, Grapefruit cocktail… made 2 ways!

This drink just so happens to be Orange, so, it really, works, given this October Heat! It’s super easy to make too, which is why it’s really Great for a party.

First, lets make the jalapeño simple syrup:
For this cocktail I’m using sliced jalapeños. Go ahead and slice 1 jalapeño. [You will use 2-3 slices for your simple syrup and the rest for garnish!]

In a small saucepan over medium heat, add 1/3 cup sugar + 1/3 cup water, immediately begin to stir, and bring to a quick boil, as soon as the sugar dissolves, immediately add 2 slices of jalapeños, turn off heat, and walk away. -allow this to cool down, to room temperature. The reason I do “small batch” simple syrup is that I’m impatient, and I usually need it, right then! BUT another reason small batch works really well, I like a little heat, my husband likes A LOT more, so I make one batch for each of us!

While that cools, lets rim glasses. Grab any bowl, and toss in some sugar, and 1 teaspoon of chipotle chili power, wet your glass, with a lime wedge, and dip right in…. OR if you’re like me, and that’s too much heat, rim half your glass, or not at all!

As for the cocktail, I prefer to use grapefruit juice + vodka, but you can always substitute for a grapefruit infused vodka. To be honest, I don’t like doing that, because I like to control the amount of vodka I actually put in my drink, which is minimal.

Spicy, Grapefruit

3 oz Grapefruit juice
2 oz vodka
1/3 oz jalapeño simple syrup
Add above ingredients to a shaker, with ice, shake, then strain over a glass, with fresh ice! Garnish with jalapeño and grapefruit if you have it on hand!

Variation: Omit only the Vodka.
Instead, add
2oz Tequila, I like Mezcal plus
1 oz lime juice to the other ingredients.
This makes a really great Spicy Margarita version! Either option you choose, its a great spicy drink, and just the right color for fall, and compliments the October heat!
