In the spirit of cocktails this week on Instagram, I wanted to also share a story behind two of my favorite bar/restaurants and why I highlighted them! So pull up a seat at – TWO of my favorite bars here in Little Rock!
South on Main:
If there’s one place in Little Rock, that Brian and I Both recommend, it’s South on Main. No not just because Matt and Amy Bell are the most generous people we’ve ever met, but they make the restaurant feel like home to everyone that walks through the door. If you aren’t familiar with SOM, it was the location of the longstanding Juanita’s. Matt and Amy took a huge leap of faith; and are now the quintessential anchor, in my opinion, to South Main!
My favorite nights are when Matt comes from behind the kitchen and sparks up conversations; or when Amy is tending the bar, and you casually ask, “for her favorite drink” …their smiles are infectious and their hearts are gold!
AS for the food, oh yes, it’s delightful! When we have friends in from Dallas, Chicago, or New York, to visit, we take them to South on Main.
Hands down the food far exceeds expectations (always impressed by Matt’s take on Southern cuisine). Can we just get him on the James Beard awards yet!?
In fact, we had our rehearsal dinner AT South on Main, that’s how much we love this restaurant, and Matt/Amy!
SO: Pull up a chair, but only at the Bar if you’re a regular… Careful now, the stools are a little loose, but those of us who go frequently know the one in the corner is only for emergencies.
When I met Brian, of course I’d been to SO, but only 1-2 times maybe; and that’s not much since I’d lived in Little Rock for almost 5 years!
Needless to say, I was very nervous going to SO for our first date (which was a Wednesday) I knew going there was a big deal, but thankfully it was a slow night, we sat at the Bar, and between Brian and Veo, I wasn’t sure if would ever stop laughing.
I can honestly say, over the last 8 years, we’ve spent countless hours at that bar; visiting with Veo for every anniversary, special occasion, and the just because, in between.
I’m not saying we’re special, but you know you’re missed when a week or two pass, and the bartender himself sends a text, “I’m missing you guys…”
